Devices that support version 3, the strongest protection, will be released soon as they require new hardware, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft notes that there are three versions of SMM Firmware Protection. Windows Defender "enables an even higher level of System Management Mode (SMM) Firmware Protection" to detect a higher level of SMM compliance. It is designed to "reduce the firmware attack surface". System Guard: Improved SMM Firmware Protection feature, which is built on top of System Guard Secure Launch.Microsoft highlights the following core improvements in the new LTSC 2021 version of Windows 10: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 will be supported until 2026 by Microsoft, that is three years less than the support lifecycle of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019. The only exception is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 IoT, which still gets 10 years of support. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 gets 5 years of support, that is 5 years less than the support lifecycle of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019. One core difference between the two Enterprise versions is that the support lifecycle has been reduced by Microsoft. For businesses waiting for an LTSC release of Windows 11, Microsoft says they can start testing app and hardware compatibility with the current release of the OS, which is Windows 11 version 22H2.Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 includes changes found in the Windows 10 versions 1903, 1909, 2004, 21H1 and 21H2, when compared to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019. Both Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC and Windows 11 Enteprise IoT LTSC will be available.

While it's been out for a while, Microsoft has yet to release a version of Windows 11 for customers in the long-term servicing channel, but it looks like it's finally happening next year. On the topic of LTSC customers, Microsoft has also announced that it's finally releasing Windows 11 LTSC in the second half of 2024. WindLTSB has the same end-of-support date of October 14, 2025, but Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 will be supported until 2029, and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 will be supported at least until 2027 (Microsoft hasn't announced an extended support period for this version). LTSC releases have a separate support period and they never get feature updates, so nothing is changing there. It's also worth noting that LTSC (long-term servicing channel) or LTSB customers are not affected by this change.
